My mother said, repeatedly, “never depend on a man.” She didn’t mean men were undependable in general, she just meant that I should make my own money. For many years now, I haven’t. And it’s bugged me.
The Safety Net is my journey toward self-sufficiency. I don’t actually have to support myself, which is a bloody miracle. But that could all be taken away in a second. Sometimes I think about that, because my brain is a jerk. And a lot of the thoughts that follow are about how I will cope financially. I aim to take away that worry once and for all, by creating a number of passive income streams.
